| Harvard's new acquisition: professor Manny Diaz |
|
Manny Diaz, former Mayor of the City of Miami has reinvented himself into a new adventure: teaching.
Diaz made public on Tuesday that he will be teaching at Harvard’s Institute of Politics (IOP). The IOP is located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and was established in 1966 as a memorial to President Kennedy. “I am very excited”, Diaz told me via e-mail. “The dialogue with my students will help enrich my life and, hopefully, theirs as well”, he added. I asked him if he is considering being a commentator of politics in some media outlet and he answered: “I have never formally taught”. But he mentioned that he was the first political analyst for Univision (SIN) back in 1984. Diaz has had a good relationship with the press during his tenure. “Many of you have asked about my post-Mayoral plans. Consequently, I thought I would share some recent developments”, said in an e-mail sent to several journalist and editors, including this one. The popular mayor, who was reelected for a second period, was named one of the America’s Best Leaders in 2008 and also the head of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, among several recognitions during his tenure. “The IOP has announced my selection as a Resident Fellow for the upcoming spring semester. I am proud to add my name to the list of other Floridians who have served as Resident Fellows: Reubin Askew, Bob Graham, Bill Nelson, Tom Gallagher and E. Clay Shaw”, said Diaz. The lawyer and businessman became a politician in 2001. After eight years in office, Diaz returned to the private practice. He announced the formation of a law firm Lydecker Diaz with Richard Lydecker. The practice will be located at 1201 Brickell Avenue. Aditionally, Manny Diaz has been elected to serve as Vice-Chairman of the ADE Board of Directors. The ADE is a national non-profit consumer advocacy organization that serves to facilitate and ensure equal access to technology in under-served communities. |
